The Meydan cycle track is not closed — it changed names. What riders once called the “Meydan Loop Road” is today Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park at District One (MBR City), beside Meydan Racecourse, and Visit Dubai now brands the serviced trackside hub “DXBike”. The purpose-built 8.4 km track opened in December 2015 (an AED 81 million Meydan Sobha project) with 4, 6 and 8 km loop options. It is free, floodlit for night riding, has rentals from about AED 50, and since May 2023 a dedicated underpass beneath Al Meydan Street has removed the last road crossing on the loop.
Where the Meydan track went
Search for “Meydan cycle track” and you find a confusing mix of outdated listings — so here is the story straight. Dubai's road-cycling scene grew up on the loop roads around Meydan Racecourse and the converted camel-track paths of Nad Al Sheba; riders called it the Meydan Loop. When Mohammed Bin Rashid City – District One was developed, Meydan Sobha replaced the informal loops with a purpose-built 8.4 km track that opened on 6 December 2015 at a cost of AED 81 million. Dubai Roadsters — the emirate's biggest riding group — describe District One today as “formerly known as Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park and Meydan Loop Road”: three names, one place. The latest layer is “DXBike”, Visit Dubai's brand for the serviced trackside hub. Nothing closed; the track simply kept being renamed as the neighbourhood around it was built.
Riding it today
The riding is the best-serviced in Dubai: silky 4, 6 and 8 km loop options under floodlights, with the Burj Khalifa skyline as the backdrop and the racecourse alongside. It is free, open around the clock, and since May 2023 entirely crossing-free — the RTA's 160 m underpass beneath Al Meydan Street (built for ~800 bikes/hour) removed the one point where riders previously met traffic. The serviced hub keeps 05:00–22:00 hours with changing rooms, showers, vending and a children's road-safety course; rentals start around AED 50. This is Dubai's social road-riding hub: Dubai Roadsters' structured group rides roll from here, The Cycle Hub's shop rides use it weekly, and winter mornings bring fast pacelines — hold your line and signal early. If you arrive expecting something called “Meydan Cycle Track” on the signage, you won't find it: navigate to “Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park” or “District One cycle track”, park at the trackside hub, and you're in the right place. One more name to keep straight: DXBike is this track's everyday brand — not to be confused with Dubai Ride, the once-a-year Sheikh Zayed Road mass event.
