TrainYAS: Free Cycling at Yas Marina Circuit

The session

Nowhere else in the world hands the public a Formula 1 circuit twice a week for free. At TrainYAS, the Yas Marina track, the one Verstappen and Hamilton settled a championship on, opens its 5.28 km Grand Prix layout to bikes, runners and walkers under full floodlighting, currently on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 10 pm. The surface is the smoothest tarmac you will ever ride, the corners are genuinely fun at bike speed, and the marina hotels and Yas landmarks light the backdrop. Tuesday evenings belong to TrainYAS Ladies, a women-and-children-only session run with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and TrainAM opens the circuit on selected early mornings for riders chasing volume before work. One standing caveat: session days shift with the seasons, Ramadan and the F1 calendar (the circuit closes around race season), so check the official page before driving out.

Bikes, registration & rules

The entry barrier is deliberately zero: even the bike is free. The Abu Dhabi Cycling Club runs a loan fleet, adult and children's sizes with helmets included, from the ComYas village, first-come first-served, so arrive early on busy winter nights if you need one. Registration is required but free, done online at yasmarinacircuit.com before you arrive. The rules are marshalled and non-negotiable: cyclists ride counter-clockwise (walkers and runners go the other way), helmets and closed shoes are mandatory, under-18s must be supervised, and phones stay in pockets while moving. It's beginner-safe by design, with separated flow, marshals and no cars ever, and simultaneously the local clubs' favourite interval venue, so expect everything from first-timers on loan bikes to full chaingangs sharing the track.

Treat lap one as a recon: the circuit's corners reward a line, and the marshalled flow means holding predictable wheels matters more than raw speed. Winter evenings are the crowded, social peak: the fast groups self-organise into trains after 8 pm as families thin out; summer sessions are hotter but emptier. Beyond the circuit, Yas Island carries about 12 km of ordinary cycleways on our map, pleasant for a warm-up spin to the venue, though the island is built around cars, so the circuit is the main event. TrainYAS pairs perfectly with Hudayriyat Island for an Abu Dhabi cycling weekend: loops and MTB by day, F1 laps by night. If you're coming from Dubai, it's about an hour each way, worth it at least once for the novelty alone.
