Trails & grading

Hatta is where UAE mountain biking got serious. The trail centre opened in February 2016 with 17 km of hand-built singletrack — a community project between Dubai Municipality's Hatta section and the HOT-COG MTB club — and has grown into the country's biggest graded network. Published figures conflict (50 km, 53 km, and an 86 km number that includes the walking-trail system), so here's our honest count: the colour-graded MTB trails traced on our live map total about 49 km — Green and Blue flow loops nearest the trail centre, Red and Black lines pushing higher into the Hajar foothills. Unlike Mushrif's forest floor or Hudayriat's built features, Hatta rides like a real mountain venue: rock gardens, loose shale, sustained climbs and genuine exposure on the harder lines. Respect the colours — a Hatta Red is a different animal from a city Red.

Season, access & the Wadi Hub layer

Two different operators shape your visit, and it pays to know which is which. The trails themselves belong to Dubai Municipality: free, unfenced, no booking, effectively open year-round (reported 06:00–18:00 in season). The commercial layer — Hatta Wadi Hub's rental fleet, the kayak lake, and the Hatta Resorts lodges — is run seasonally by Dubai Holding, typically September/October through late April. That matters in practice: Season 8 closed in April 2026 and Hatta is paused for summer with Season 9 dates not yet announced, so right now the trails are ridable at dawn with your own bike, but there are no rentals, no workshop and minimal services on the mountain. When the season runs, the Wadi Hub fleet (~60 bikes) rents mountain bikes at about AED 65/hour, e-bikes around AED 150 for three hours and kids' bikes near AED 45, pads and helmet included, with guided tours available.

Getting there & staying

Hatta sits in Dubai's mountain exclave about 90 minutes' drive from the city along the E44 — carry your passport-adjacent ID as the road briefly skirts Omani territory checkpoints. The trailhead, workshop, bike wash and storage cluster near Hatta Dam beside the Wadi Hub zone, with free parking. The move locals love: make it an overnight. Hatta Resorts' Damani Lodges and Sedr Trailers (the region's first trailer hotel, on the dam's banks) put you at the trailhead for a dawn start — in season only. Summer visitors should treat it as a strict dawn raid: ride at first light, be off the mountain by mid-morning, and cool off at the dam.

Hatta punishes city assumptions. Carry more water than any Dubai track demands — there are no taps on the mountain and the Hajar heat radiates off rock. Tubeless tyres or thick tubes are near-mandatory; the shale and thorn scrub eat sidewalls. Phone signal drops in the wadis, so ride the outer Reds and Blacks with company, and log your ride on Trailforks where the local community keeps trail-status notes. Winter weekends bring a genuine scene — club groups, families on the Greens, the workshop buzzing — while summer belongs to committed locals at 5:30 am.
